Show Notes

PT 3: Lissa Appiah is the founder and CEO of WeApply Career Services, a certified career and resume strategist and parent of one kid. To date, she’s helped over one thousand professionals articulate their value and own their careers, was recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Black Women to Watch in 2022 and received the Black Moms Connection Village Award at the Total Mom Pitch in 2023.

In our third and final episode, we talk about preparing to re-enter the workforce as a parent and caregiver, the importance of your transferable skills and how she is learning to pace herself as a business owner.

THINGS WE TALK ABOUT:

  • Her advice for parents and primary caregivers who are seeking a career change as part of their re-entry into the workforce
  • The sad reality employers may question gaps in your resume as a caregiver but don’t discredit the experience and skills you’ve gained during this time
  • Things she wishes she knew before becoming a parent and entrepreneur
  • Learning how to pace herself and enjoy being a business owner
  • The kind of world she hopes her kid grows up in

Thanks to Lissa for taking time out of her day to speak with me about all things parenthood, owning your career, making transitions and creating impact when it comes to corporate leadership.

Season 5 has been sponsored by the Startup Women Fund, presented by Startup Canada, Scotiabank and UPS.
