Mixing Babies And Business™
068 | Parenting while coaching career changers and facilitating leadership programs with Lissa Appiah | PT 2
PT 2: Lissa Appiah is the founder and CEO of WeApply Career Services, a certified career and resume strategist and parent of one kid. To date, she’s helped over one thousand professionals articulate their value and own their careers, was recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Black Women to Watch in 2022 and received the Black Moms Connection Village Award at the Total Mom Pitch in 2023.
In the second mini episode, we talk about how she hypes herself up for in person networking events and current trends she’s seeing from employers seeking to promote parents and people from underrepresented groups into leadership roles.
THINGS WE TALK ABOUT:
- Meeting Lissa at a Startup Women dinner event and not realizing how LinkedIn famous she is
- How she prepares for in person networking events as a self-professed introvert
- Any trends she’s seeing around employers promoting parents and people from underrepresented groups into leadership roles
- Moving from awareness into action and at times, the stepping back of corporations from initiatives related to talent
- Her opinion on the shift that needs to happen with corporate culture and how people view work
Thanks to Lissa for taking time out of her day to speak with me about the important role aligning with a company’s values plays when it comes to talent attraction and retention, why your needs may change when you become a parent and caregiver and what corporate culture shifts need to happen.
Season 5 has been sponsored by the Startup Women Fund, presented by Startup Canada, Scotiabank and UPS.
